Seeing Jesus Before You Meet Jesus.
Matthew 3:4-5
These two verses say so much more about our life in Christ, more than wearing camel's hair and eating locusts. It speaks to more than sacrifice in our lives and shouts to the light. The Light that was promised to come in Old Testament prophecies. The hope for our future through Christ. Which is still our great hope.
These verses are a testament to living life set apart, holy. They saw John the Baptist not for what he had, but for who he had and they were drawn to him. "Then Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region about the Jordan were going out to him." (Mt. 3:5) They were seeing Jesus before they could see Jesus. John committed his life to Christ and set himself apart for the work the Lord had for him. John was to be the "Voice crying in the wilderness" (Mt.3:2b) and make way. "Repent for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand." (Mt. 3:2a)
This is our hope, our testament from those before us that we can live set a part and in doing so others will be drawn to Christ in us. They will see His Light. It takes this, a committed life to Christ. A set apart repentive life for Christ. The chapter goes on to say, "Bear fruit in keeping with repentance" (Mt. 3:8). That we must repent of our sins, daily. A repentive life bears fruit, a fruit that will draw others in. This daily washing to cleanse us so we are ready for what our day will bring. Then we can seek out how we will be a 'voice in the wilderness' we live in because we do. Through you, others can see Jesus before they meet Jesus.
